Pack a Picnic

We are a budget-conscious family, so if we can save a few dollars we are going to! During this trip, we packed a lunch and enjoyed one of the many spots to take in the views. There is a large picnic area, as well as benches and open seating where the cafe is located. Take your pick!

Pro Tip: Be sure to bring along snacks like these easy pouches, so your little one can eat on the go!

Purchase Your Tickets Online

Another thing that we researched prior to arriving was how they were conducting their visitor strategy. Our first time here was during pandemic times, so we learned that they have timed entry and things are much easier if you purchase your tickets in advance. Gaining entrance was simple as well. You just showed your QR code, they scan it and then you’re in!

Catch a Show or Keeper Chat

There are a variety of shows or Keeper Chats, where you can learn more about the animals that reside at the Point Defiance Zoo! This is especially fun for the little explorers that love to learn more about their favorite animals.

Kids Zone

There is a specific area of the zoo that is catered to children. This is a fun spot for kids to explore and has animals as well. During our trip, our little one was too tired by the time we got to the kid’s zone, but I’ve included a picture of the map showing where to find it!

Explore the Rest of Point Defiance

After you’re done adventuring through the zoo, be sure to check out the remainder of Point Defiance. There are plenty of walking trails and views to soak in. We made stops at the Japanese Gardens, Marina and Rose Gardens. Another fun highlight was the nature walks near Owens Beach.

Are you excited to start planning this easy trip with the family? We hope you enjoy this experience as much as we did with our little one.
